Dutch Officials Issue ‘Red Alert’ Over Potentially Lethal Trump-Shaped Ecstasy Pills

Authorities Warn the Colorful Tablets May Look Like a Party Favor, but This Is One Trump You Definitely Don’t Want in Your System

THE HAGUE, Netherlands — President Donald Trump has been called many things during his political career. Dutch health officials can now add one more to the list: potentially lethal ecstasy tablet.

Authorities in the Netherlands issued a “Red Alert” Friday after dangerous ecstasy pills molded in the shape of Trump’s head began showing up at drug-testing centers.

Yes, his head.

The tablets come in several colors, including green and yellow, and feature a likeness of Trump on one side. The reverse is stamped with “NL” and “Trump,” apparently in case anyone was confused about whose head they were about to swallow.

The joke ends there.

Testing by the Netherlands’ drug-monitoring system found the pills contain high concentrations of para-methoxymethamphetamine, or PMMA, a dangerous drug with effects similar to MDMA, the substance commonly associated with ecstasy.

PMMA is particularly risky because its effects can take longer to kick in. A person may mistakenly believe the pill isn’t working and take another — a decision that can lead to severe overheating and potentially fatal complications.

Dutch health officials have therefore issued some remarkably uncomplicated medical advice:

Don’t take Trump.

Officials said they were not aware of any serious illnesses or deaths linked to the pills so far.

The Netherlands has an extensive drug-testing program that allows users to anonymously submit substances for analysis, giving health officials an early warning when especially dangerous drugs enter circulation.

Ecstasy is illegal in the Netherlands but remains widely used, particularly at clubs and music festivals. A 2024 government report estimated that approximately 550,000 people in the country had used the drug during the previous year.

And, perhaps inevitably, this isn’t Trump’s first appearance in the illicit pharmaceutical business.

German police seized thousands of orange ecstasy tablets shaped like Trump’s head in 2017.

Nearly a decade later, the presidential pills are back.

Only this time Dutch authorities aren’t debating whether they’re red, blue or politically independent.

They’re simply saying don’t swallow them.
