ARTESIA — Four suspected home-invasion robbers were taken into custody Thursday following a pursuit and nearly two-hour manhunt that ended near the 91 Freeway and Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia.
The incident began at approximately 10:30 a.m. when Los Angeles Police Department officers were tracking four suspects believed to be connected to multiple home-invasion robberies across Los Angeles County.
The group allegedly committed another home-invasion robbery in the 1700 block of Jersey Avenue in Artesia before officers attempted to stop their vehicle.
The suspects eventually stopped at a gas station and fled on foot. Three were quickly taken into custody, but a fourth escaped, prompting authorities to establish a large perimeter and launch an extensive search.
An LAPD helicopter joined the operation along with a K9 unit as officers searched the area around the 91 Freeway and Pioneer Boulevard.
The operation also resulted in freeway closures and school lockdowns in the surrounding area as authorities searched for the remaining suspect.
After an hourslong search, officers located the fourth suspect hiding in brush near the freeway and took him into custody.
All four suspects were ultimately arrested.
Authorities had not immediately released the suspects’ names or detailed the specific home-invasion cases to which they may be connected.
The arrests brought a dramatic end to a major law-enforcement operation involving officers on the ground, a police helicopter and K9 teams searching through the Artesia area.
The investigation into the suspected robbery crew and whether its members are connected to additional home invasions remains ongoing.
