CERRITOS, CA – The New York Times raved: “Darlene Love’s
thunderbolt voice is as embedded in the history of rock and roll as Eric Clapton’s guitar or Bob Dylan’s lyrics.” Rolling Stone Magazine proclaimed her as “one of the greatest singers of all time.” Don’t miss this singing sensation at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Saturday, September 14 at 8:00 PM. Tickets for this pre-season show start at $40.
Hers was the voice that helped launch a hundred hits: the No. 1 He’s a Rebel, (Today I Met) the Boy I’m Gonna Marry, Wait ‘Til My Bobby Gets Home, He’s Sure the Boy I Love, and the No. One holiday classic Christmas Baby Please Come Home during the glory days of the girl-group era.
DARLENE LOVE has done it all – from major motion pictures like the highly successful Lethal Weapon series to Broadway hits such as Hairspray and Grease and television (Shindig). She started off singing background vocals for hundreds of artists – including The Righteous Brothers, Dionne Warwick, Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, and Elvis Presley – but easily became a star in her own right. A minister’s daughter, Love grew up listening to Gospel music and began singing in her church choir at age 10.
In 1998, the Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s Pioneer Award
winner published the memoir My Name Is Love about her life struggles and her time in the music industry. In 2011, Love was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The movie 20 Feet From Stardom earned her a 2014 Grammy for “Best Music Film.”
