Jose Francisco Aleman of South Gate Arrested for Murdering His Five Month-Old Baby

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators have arrested a resident of South Gate in connection with the continuing investigation into the murder of his 5 month old daughter.

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 4:55 AM, officers from the South Gate Police Department responded to a home in the 8000 block of California Avenue in the city of South Gate regarding a call of a baby not breathing.  Upon arriving, they observed the victim unresponsive undergoing lifesaving efforts by fire department personnel.  Sadly, the 5 month old victim died at the scene.

On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, an autopsy was conducted at the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.  It was determined at the time the victim did not die of natural causes and there was evidence of traumatic injury.  The victim’s death was ruled a homicide.  South Gate Police Department officials requested Los Angeles County Sheriff Homicide Bureau assist in the investigation.

The victim’s father was arrested after an exhaustive investigation.  On Thursday, March 7, 2019, Jose Francisco Aleman, a 22 year old Male Hispanic of South Gate, was booked at South Gate Police Department for Murder (187(a) PC) and Assault on a Child Causing Death (273ab(a) PC).

Earlier today, Monday March 11, 2019, charges were filed in Downey Court by members of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Complex Child Abuse Section, and Family Violence Division.  One count of Murder along with one count of Assault on a Child Causing Death was filed on Jose Francisco Aleman.  His arraignment was postponed until March 26, 2019.

The victim’s name is not being released by the Sheriff’s Department due to her being a minor.
