ABC School Board Area 7 Candidate Vasquez Does Not Live in District, Registered to Vote Four Days Ago

By Brian Hews

A Hews Media Group-Community News investigation has found that Silvestre Vasquez, who recently pulled papers at the Norwalk Registrar Recorder’s office to run for ABCUSD School Board Trustee Area 7 in Hawaiian Gardens, registered only four days ago, on Aug. 3, 2015, to vote in Hawaiian Gardens.

A candidate who runs for ABCUSD School Board District Area 7 must be registered to vote in Hawaiian Gardens.

Vasquez listed his primary residence at 12134 114th St. in Hawaiian Gardens and owns a business called S and J Auto Center on Carson in the city.

But an online title search shows Vasquez living in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath single-family  dwelling on San Arturo Circle in Buena Park, with a FHA loan attached to the house in his name.

According to FHA rules, any home that has a FHA loan attached to it must be the homeowner’s primary residence, dictating that Vasquez’ home on 114th St. in Hawaiian Gardens is not his primary residence.

That would make Vasquez ineligible to run for ABCUSD School Board District Area 7.

In addition, S and J Auto Center Incorporated is an active California Corporation registered under Vasquez. The address for service for the corporation is the same address as his Buena Park home on San Arturo Circle.

Vasquez could be in legal hot water also, as the nomination papers are signed, under penalty of perjury, saying he lives in the district.

I wonder how a crooked guy like this gets such a good reviews on his business.

  • Maria R says:

Haha. These goofs don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.

  • Mike Gomez says:

Brian, I think you are going after the wrong guy on this one. Silver is a homegrown Hawaiian Gardens resident. He was raised in the city and attended local
Schools. He has worked hard to to become a successful business owner in the city, his children attended Schools in ABC, he is a past Artesia High School PTSA President, his wife is currently President, and I have participated in a city mentoring program with him and witnessed him mentor dozens of local students and spending thousands of his own money financially assisting them as well.
It’s true he owns two homes, one in Buena Park and one in Hawaiian Gardens, he has chosen to move back to his Hawaiian Gardens home and run for the school board at the request of many Hawaiian Gardens residents because the only other candidate is a true transplant from West Covina who blatantly only purchased a condo in the city six months ago with the sole purpose of running for the school board of a community he knows nothing about, and by the way he was never registered to vote in Hawaiian Gardens until this election.
The question you should be asking is who has given of himself for the children of Hawaiian Gardens and who is more qualified to represent our students and families.

    • The writer of this letter is Hawaiian Gardens Councilman Mike Gomez.

I like how the two supporters of Vasquez rate his character on the reviews he gets about his business. So his worth is based on reviews of people who could be his friends? And that will dictate how he will be as a politician? He filed papers late, he just registered to vote in Hawaiian Gardens, but had a business in the city for years and all of a sudden he cares? WTF? Tortured logic!

    • ABCUSD says:

      Wait a minute….

There are only two people wanting to represent the students from the Hawaiian Gardens area? And neither lived in the city until recently.

There is a much bigger problem here. A much bigger problem here… The reason the representation of the school board was broken up into multiple areas was because of small group of political activist wrongly convinced the courts that the then current representation wasn’t fair. That certain ‘groups’ were not being represented.

It’s obvious by what is going on that this certain group never existed.

If what is going on now is any indication ABCUSD will become the new Bell, the new Central Basin Water District.

Welcome to the 3rd of world of politics ABCUSD.

  • Sam says:

I agree with Mike Gomez I have known Mr. Vasquez for many years and he has always been there for the kids of our community and obviously the complementary reviews he gets about his business shows true testament of his character.
What I would like to know is how could the mayor and his puppet Rodriguez back up a carpet bagger over a person who care so much for the children of the community.
I won’t get started with my opinion of the mayor and his puppet

  • Mike Gomez says:

One final comment from me just to clear up a misunderstanding. There is a filing period of about 3 weeks, whether you file the first or last day. ( which many people do) you have filed on time, not late.
As to character, it is best judged by our past actions. One receives favorable reviews based on how you have treated others in the past, and yes that is an indication of how you will most likely treat people in the future whether auto repair business or School Board Member good or bad you cannot change your stripes.
Silver has a long record of community service and he deserves to be recognized for that, nothing more, nothing less.

  • Sam says:

    OMG REALLY!!!!
Obviously you are friends with the one who just bought a house in the city just to run and knows nothing about the community. Again obviously he wasn’t late with his papers because he got them in on time, and don’t you think because he has a good character that helps his business? What makes you think a “pastor” makes a good politician? or even a person who knows nothing about what our children need? Also no one but you said all of a sudden he cares because if you know anything he has and still is very active with the PTSA so OBVIOUSLY HE CARES

    • OMG says:

Really? Two words for you… Leonard Chaidez. Go back far enough for you? One question for you. If Vasquez, who has a business in HG, is SO INTERESTED in the city, why did he just register to vote in the city Aug 3? Why not register years ago and get involved with City Council, ABCUSD? Why does he live in BP? I am friends with no one, Mike and Victor are backing Vasquez! That convince you I know the city??

Just as I have lost faith in the Original band, ‘Journey’ gettting back together.. I have lost faith in 98% of all people who hold an elected seat.

  • Maria says:

Brian Haws needs to do an investigation on Mariana Rios. She doesn’t live in HG. She got married and lives with her husband in LA! Really she wants to fool the people and make you think she lives in HG with her mother when her husband lives in LA! Don’t play the community for a fool!
