LOCAL MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES

Artesia Cemetery District

The Artesia Cemetery District invites the community to commemorate Memorial Day and honor those who answered the call of duty.

The event will take place Monday, May 25, 10 AM, at the Artesia Cemetery 11142 East Artesia Blvd., Cerritos, 90703.

The event will include a prelude with patriotic music, Memorial wreath laying, and the playing of taps.

There will be a speaker talking about the History of Artesia Civil War Soldiers accompanied by a bag piper. Light refreshments to follow ceremony. For more information 562-865-6300.

Cerritos 

The City of Cerritos invites the community to attend a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m. near the Cerritos Veterans Memorial in the Cerritos Civic Center.

The event is held in honor of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation’s freedom as members of the United States armed forces.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will begin with prelude music performed by the Cerritos College Concert Band at 9:45 a.m. The ceremony will include a presentation of colors; comments by the City Council; laying of wreaths and a moment of silence. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

At the event, the Friends of the 1st CEB will be collecting donations of new, unopened packages of baby wipes, disposable razors, shaving cream (preferably Barbasol), toothbrushes and toothpaste for care packages to be sent to marines deployed overseas.

Downey

The Downey Cemetery District Trustees will hold the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Downey Cemetery, 9073 Gardendale Street, on Monday, May 30, at 11:00 A.M.

The ceremony will feature remarks by the District Trustees; a wreath laying, a rifle salute by American Legion Post 270 and the playing of Taps and is open to everyone.

The Ceremony will take place at the Veteran’s Memorial Wall and garden and will last approximately one hour.

The historic Downey Cemetery is located south of the Green Line Transit Station on Lakewood Boulevard.  A free shuttle service, provided by the Downey Senior and Handicapped Transit service, will take attendees from the Lakewood Boulevard Green Line parking lot to the Cemetery.  Parking will not be permitted in the Cemetery.  The buses will deliver riders to the Ceremony site and return them to the Green Line parking lot at the conclusion of the program.

Lakewood

Memorial Day will be extra special this year in Lakewood, with the dedication of the new Veterans Memorial Plaza, including the refurbished Del Valle jet plane and the unveiling of over 1,400 memorial bricks purchased in the name of veterans and Lakewood community members and groups.

Lakewood City Council Members will join with members of American Legion Post 496, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 8615, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 756 in leading the community.

The city’s traditional Memorial Day ceremony running from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 25 at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Del Valle Park at the corner of Woodruff Avenue and Henrilee Street.

La Palma 

The Memorial Day Ceremony has become one of the most time-honored traditions in La Palma.

Having existed for over 36 years, the ceremony pays tribute to the dedication and sacrifices the men and women of our Nation’s Armed Forces have made.

Every Memorial Day, the City of La Palma honors their service in defense of our freedom and their sacrifice for Liberty throughout the world.

The ceremony will take place Monday, May 25, 2015 at the City’s Eternal Flame located in front of the Civic Center starting at 9 a.m.

Norwalk

(Norwalk, CA)-The public is invited to attend the City’s annual observance on Monday,     May 25 at 11:00 a.m.  This free event takes place on the Civic Center Lawn at Norwalk City Hall, 12700 Norwalk Boulevard.

Coordinated by the City of Norwalk and Norwalk American Legion Post 359, the ceremony will include a student color guard, performances by the Norwalk All-City Youth Band, and a keynote address by Sue Pollard, Southern California and Hawaii Department President, Saddleback Valley Chapter President, and National Chaplain for the American Gold Star Mothers.  The Gold Star Mothers, established in 1928, honor members’ sons and daughters lost in service to their country through the organization’s own service to the community and veterans.

Complimentary refreshments will be served, and free parking is available.  Guests are invited to attend a free luncheon following the ceremony at the American Legion Hall.

Chick-fil-A Military Appreciation Night 

All 59 Chick-fil-A® restaurants in Southern California will honor the region’s military personnel and their families with Military Appreciation Night on Wednesday, May 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. All active military personnel and those who have honorably served are invited, along with their immediate family members, to enjoy a free entrée at their local Chick-fil-A restaurant.

The free Chick-fil-A entrée offer is valid with a military ID or proof of service and is only available for dine-in customers.
