A Google executive is among at least 10 people who died in a huge avalanche on Mount Everest which was triggered by a powerful earthquake in Nepal.
Dan Fredinburg, product manager and head of privacy at Google X, was confirmed as having been killed.
Mr Fredinburg, who described himself as an adventurer, was hiking in the region with three other Google employees when the avalanche struck on Saturday.
The other three people are safe, the tech giant said.
A woman identifying herself as Fredinburg’s sister posted from his Instagram account on Saturday, saying that he had suffered a “major head injury” and died.
“We appreciate all of the love that has been sent our way thus far and know his soul and his spirit will live on in so many of us,” according to the post on Instagram.
The avalanche occurred after a powerful earthquake — the country’s worst in 80 years — rocked mountainous Nepal on Saturday.
Thousands are feared dead.
