Embassy Suites Steps into the Space Age

By Tammye McDuff

The Embassy Suites hotel located in Downey is receiving a multi-million dollar renovation. Completing a three month and $8 million dollar renovation of 219 suites and bathrooms, a new opening is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015 with a new lobby, atrium, restaurant, lounge and fitness center. The renovation also includes a seismic retrofit of the building.

To showcase their brand new look to the local community, the Embassy Suites hosted a Multi-Chamber Grand Re-Opening Reception including the Downey, Commerce, Santa Fe Springs, Paramount and Vernon Chambers of Commerce. This star studded evening event revolved around an Academy Awards theme (including a Charlie Chaplin look-alike) to piggy back with the 81st Annual Academy Awards held a few days later at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. The event drew over 350 attendees from the local business community.

“The renovations recently completed at the Embassy Suites, Downey will enable the hotel to provide guests with superior accommodations” said Maurice Casaus, General Manager. “Our roomy suites will continue to appeal to business travelers while families will enjoy comfort of two separate rooms.”

The major facelift of the new public areas will incorporate the well known Aerospace theme. The lobby will be enhanced by a futuristic furniture and deep space colors of grays and blues with chandeliers that resemble stars in the night sky. A new convenience pantry will be added adjacent to the front desk offering healthy grab-and-go foods for guests.

The well known gazebo and dining area will be replaced by cylindrical fountains and green areas. The restaurant will be rearranged to make better use of the square footage and the lounge will be enlarged and completely refurbished.

All Embassy Suites Hotels® offer spacious two-room suites that include a separate living area with a sofa bed, armchair, and well-lit dining/work table, private bedroom and bath, hair dryers, MP3 clock radio, two televisions, two dual-line phones, high-speed Internet access, a wet bar, mini-refrigerator, microwave oven, an iron and ironing board, a Precor® fitness center, a convenient complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast each morning and a complimentary two-hour Manager’s Reception* each evening.

Does the city of Downey have a hotel bed tax on this property? Think it is tacky, that the city of Cerritos voters are going to vote on a hotel bed tax for one hotel in the city of Cerritos which is the Sheraton. The city of Cerritos should be happy that we are blessed with a nice hotel and not tax them to death.

March 3rd, the voters of Cerritos will be voting for a hotel bed tax, was wondering if the city of Downey has this also?

North Downey housing stock is world wide beautiful, as the residents of N Downey have done an A+ Job in refurbishing beautiful McMansions and continuing RICH history of Downey.

Any buyers for the orig Taco Bell, as reported by LCCN and Chan 5 news feeds?
