CERRITOS, CA – The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) Broadway Series presents the four-time Tony-winning musical Camelot, which the Chicago Tribune called “one of the great musicals of the 20th century.” The legend of King Arthur is retold in this time-honored tale of chivalry, brotherhood, love, and betrayal on Friday, January 9, 8:00 PM and Saturday, January 10, 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Tickets start at $35 and are available at the CCPA Ticket Office and cerritoscenter.com or by calling (562) 467-8818. The musical is recommended for age 10 and older.
Broadway’s sweeping tale of passion, pageantry, and betrayal, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s CAMELOT is full of “beauty and heart,” cheers the Chicago Sun-Times. Taught well by his mentor Merlin, King Arthur and his new queen, Guenevere, rule the kingdom of Camelot with refreshing and high ideals, bringing peace to a once troubled land. When the dashing but arrogant Sir Lancelot joins the Knights of the Round Table, one of the most fabled love triangles of all time ensues as the warrior and the queen fall madly in love. King Arthur’s traitorous illegitimate son, Mordred, quickly catches wind of the scandalous affair and sets out to dishonor the king and destroy the kingdom.
The New York Times noted the timeless fable’s “superb score…. [which] combined a lyrical simplicity with a lush romanticism.” The musical features the classic songs If Ever I Would Leave You, The Simple Joys of Maidenhood, I Loved You Once in Silence, I Wonder What the King Is Doing Tonight, and the title track Camelot.
