LAPD Officer Roberto Sanchez Killed In Violent Crash of Patrol Car

By Brian Hews

Roberto Sanchez a six-year veteran assigned to the Harbor Area with the Los Angeles Police Department was tragically killed early Saturday morning after his patrol car was hit by another vehicle.

The tragic accident also left Sanchez’es partner in critical condition.

According to officials with the LAPD, at 3:55 a.m. near the intersection of President Avenue and West Anaheim Street in Harbor City, Sanchez patrol car and another vehicle violently collided.

The driver of the other vehicle fled from the scene. A search was underway to find the other driver. The accident was the third death of an LAPD officer in a traffic collision in the last two months.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti issued the following statement: “Officer Sanchez died a hero, but that does not lessen the blow to his family and fellow officers,” the mayor said in a statement. “This third loss of an officer in the line of duty in just two months is a stark and tragic reminder of the dangers our first responders face every day.”

More details to follow.

Prayers to his family, I have a police chief & several police officers in my family, so proud of them but each day something could happen & they may not come home. I hope he is with the Angels now, & his partner recovers quickly.
