Community Lawyers, Inc., will be hosting their 5th Annual Justice Jam, “Celebrating Our Tradition of Advocacy,” this Friday, October 4 at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes near Union Station and Historical Olvera Street in Downtown Los Angeles beginning at 5 p.m.
San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will be featured at the event along with a cadre of other well-known political, community and legal scholars.

The non-profit organization will also be honoring retired California Supreme Court Justice Carlos R. Moreno for his outstanding work in the civil rights arena.
Also being hailed at the event will be Saru Jayaraman, Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Restaurant Opportunities Center United (ROC-United) who is nationally known for her work organizing restaurant workers and the Black Women Lawyers Assoc. of Los Angeles. Mayor Castro will be the Keynote speaker for the event.
Community Lawyers, Inc., is a non-profit promoting access to affordable legal services for low and moderate income individuals primarily to the communities of Compton, South Los Angeles, the South Bay and South East Los Angeles County.
Proceeds from this event will support the organization’s weekly legal clinics as well allow CLI to expand its programming. Additionally, it will help support CLAC and CLI’s Law Student Internship Program which is organized in conjunction with Community Legal Services and the Legal Aid Society.
Organizers of the event tell Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper that Los Angeles City Councilman Gilbert Cedillo, Los Angeles City Council Mitch O’Farrell and Los Angeles City Controller Ron Galperin will also be in attendance.
