Social media sites exploded on Sunday night showing images of mass chaos in Huntington Beach after a national surfing competition came to a close.
As many as three dozen homemade videos were uploaded to You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, and several other websites showing toppling of portable toilets, brawling in the streets and vandalizing businesses near the pier in Huntington Beach. Videos also show a massive police force trying to get the crown under control.
News media outlets are reporting that “riots broke out among a crowd of thousands gathered for the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing, which includes surfing, skateboarding and BMX biking events.”
It is still unclear exactly when the riots began, but witnesses began mentioning the riots in social media posts earlier than 8 p.m. Here are some of the videos via You Tube:
