Downey Regional Medical Center Enters Management Services Agreement with PIH Health

Agreement provides support needed to achieve mission of providing the highest quality care for the residents of Downey and its surrounding communities.

Downey, Calif. – Downey Regional Medical Center (DRMC) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with PIH Health to manage its day-to-day operations. This is a progressive step that will position DRMC for growth in the new healthcare environment.

“Collaboration is an important element in the new era of healthcare reform, both locally and nationally,” said James Ball, chairman of the DRMC Board. “The expert support of PIH Health ensures the high standards of quality and safety that residents of the Downey community have counted on for more than 90 years.”

Hospitals that work together have better outcomes, increased community presence and a stronger balance sheet. The collaboration between DRMC and PIH Health will benefit the patients, employees, physicians, and volunteers affiliated with both institutions.

“Under healthcare reform, those hospitals that collaborate are rewarded for their efforts to improve wellness and increase care efficiencies,” said Brian Smolskis, chief operating officer at DRMC. “As nonprofit organizations, both DRMC and PIH Health share a rich history of meeting the healthcare needs of their communities and establishing a ‘patients first’ vision. This collaboration will further strengthen the services and the reach of each institution.”

DRMC has been the health leader in its community for more than 90 years, and PIH Health is dedicated to strengthening and preserving that presence. At the end of April, DRMC filed an application with the California Attorney General seeking permission to enter into an agreement to become part of PIH Health. That application is currently under review.
