Hundreds of new laws for Californians get ready to go into effect for 2013.

By Brian Hews

Californians can look forward to having hundreds of new laws to look forward to right after the stroke of midnight on Monday as 2013 begins.

One raises the sales tax, another will give seniors a hand, and drivers with smartphone will also be getting a little help from Sacramento lawmakers.

Assemblyman Mike Gatto of Los Angeles took to his Facebook page over the weekend in a celebratory mood over his bill that was signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown that lets the California Department of Motor Vehicles to start selling vintage license plates that mirror the ones issued from the 1950s to the 1970s.

“My AB 1658 will take effect Jan. 1. You can already pre-order. I helped design the form. Please save your DMV jokes – it is pretty user-friendly, I think!,” Gatto told his thousands of Facebook friends on Saturday.

Here is a list of those Assembly and Senate bills that will become law beginning at 12:01 a.m., January 1, 2013:
