The campus at California State University in Los Angeles was evacuated and closed down on Thursday afternoon after school officials were alerted about a possible bomb threat.
“The CSULA campus is closed as of noon, April 18, as a precaution. Those on campus should evacuate immediately,” a Tweet from the school said.
“A bomb threat was called into the campus about 11 a.m. It went to the El Monte police station from a payphone,” Cal State LA Spokesman Paul Browning said. “Someone said, ‘I put a bomb on Cal State LA, you have 2 hours.’ It’s a half hour past that now.”
Officials told members of the media that the phone call about the bomb threat was traced back to a restaurant in El Monte at 11216 Garvey Ave.
Witnesses were able to provide police with a description of a person who was in the phone booth around the time the call was made.
