Harbor Freeway Comes To Halt As Cops Look for Armed Bank Robbers

By Brian Hews

Call it the LA version of “Cops Versus Bank Robbers” on one of the busiest freeways in America on the Friday before Christmas.

Traffic on the northbound 110 Freeway just south of Florence Avenue came to a screeching halt on Friday as law enforcement officials conducted a car to car search to find armed bank robbery suspects.

Traffic was stopped at three different points on the freeway near Manchester Avenue, and at around 1:20 p.m., the freeway was reopened and traffic was returning to normal levels, NBC News reported.

NBCLA also reported that “the search was believed to be linked to a bank robbery in Moreno Valley. At least three masked men robbed the Altura Credit Union located at 12125 Day St. in Moreno Valley on Friday morning, police said.

The robbers were armed, said Deputy Albert Martinez of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Martinez also confirmed there was “some type of tracking device” in the stolen money.  “The trackers out there are pretty accurate,” said Martinez.
