The We Still Have A Dream Coalition will hold a march and rally to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the march on Washington. The event will be on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Leimert Park (located at Crenshaw Boulevard and Vernon Avenue in Los Angeles).
The rally program, “Act Now For Human Rights”, will include speakers, entertainment, and a march down Crenshaw Boulevard.
A spokesperson for the event told Hews Media Group-Community News that “the coalition is calling on Americans to join together to repudiate and fight against the ongoing legislative and political attacks on communities of color from the extreme right, while honoring the diversity and continued fight for freedom from oppression.”
March and rally organizers cite legislative proposals, judicial decisions, government regulations, and political rhetoric, as evidence that “war” is being waged against communities of color. We only have to look at the examples of Treyvon Martin, Oscar Grant, LaTasha Harlans, Marissa Alexander, and the Supreme Court devastation of the Voting Rights Act to understand how our human rights have been trampled.
The Coalition organizers are excited about the opportunity to mount efforts to restore the dream through proactive solutions.
The We Still have a Dream Coalition is a non-partisan organization of individuals and groups who have joined together to push back, stand up, and declare: “Enough is Enough!” The August 31st march and rally’s coalition partners are: Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, the NAACP, First AME Church, the MLK Coalition, Word Empowerment Ministries, the ACLU, MoveOn.org, Common Cause, and MOVI. There will be performances by the First AME Church Unity Choir, and the KJLH Performing Arts Choir, along with a few exciting surprises and an incredible line up of speakers and more to be announced.
