CERRITOS, CA – Two-time Grammy winner Patti LaBelle kicks off the
2013-2014 Season at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA)
with a rousing concert of her greatest hits. The Boston-based a cappella
group Ball in the House opens the show on Saturday, August 17, 8:00 PM.

Known for her passionate stage performances and high-octave range, the
“Godmother of Soul” PATTI LABELLE, who blazed up music charts with
hits such as Stir It Up and If You Asked Me To, is set to dazzle the
Cerritos audience with her New Attitude in a show to be opened by the
group BALL IN THE HOUSE.
LaBelle literally discovered her voice while singing with the church
choir every Sunday. From those humble beginnings, she skyrocketed to
fame as the legendary force behind the No. One songs On My Own, If Only
You Knew, The Right Kinda Lover, and Lady Marmalade. Her Top 20 hit The
Best Is Yet to Come earned LaBelle her first solo Grammy nomination.
Burnin’ struck Gold status and won the singer her first Grammy. She
received another Grammy with Live! One Night Only. With more than 50
million records sold worldwide, LaBelle was inducted into the Grammy
Hall of Fame, the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, and the Apollo Hall of
Fame. She also garnered the prestigious Legend Award from the World
Music Awards.
In addition to her singing career, LaBelle penned the 1997
autobiography Don’t Block the Blessings and the 1998 cookbook LaBelle
Cuisine: Recipes to Sing About. She also appeared in the films A
Soldier’s Story and Beverly Hills Cop and the popular 1990s television
series A Different World.
Opening the concert is Ball in the House, which “has everything you
would expect to find in a successful Pop/Rock band. … The one thing it
doesn’t have is instruments,” hailed The Boston Globe.
Mixing Classic and Contemporary, the quintet blends a wide range of
influences, from classic R&B to Pop, Hip-Hop, and Gospel. The band
members – Dave Guisti, Jon Ryan, Ryan Chappelle, Nels Urtel, and
Suranjan Sen – have performed with The Beach Boys, Gladys Knight, The
Jonas Brothers, Jessica Simpson, Fantasia, Blondie, The Temptations,
Smokey Robinson, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Kool & the Gang.

What is the profit to the city on this one performance?
The Performing Art Center is losing residents $7 million per year according to the speaker at your meeting.
The Mayor Barrows said politicians do not get elected to council in Cerritos if they fix the problem and save tax payer money. He thinks he is a smart politician so he will not do anything to save our money. His reasoning is that if he wastes our our money we will like him and keep electing him so he can waste more of our money and we will like him even more.
It is costing us almost $1 million a month to like the Mayor Barrows. Is he worth that much money?
The Mayor Barrows said when the Center was build it was part of a bigger picture to bring in business. I ask you Mr. Mayor Barrows if you lose $70 Million on the Center will it bring in ten times more business?
I am not a smart politician like you are Mr. Mayor Barrows. If you were to ask me I would say if the Center made a profit of $1 it would generate more business for the city then it is doing now.
