Release of Jailed LA County Assessor Noguez Expected Friday

The legal team of jailed Los Angeles County Assessor John R. Noguez has appeared to have successfully completed all of the requirements that will lead to his release from a downtown jail facility, Los Cerritos Community Newspaper can confirm.

Noguez who is the central figure in what former District Attorney Steve Cooley called “the biggest political corruption case in the last 40 years in Los Angeles County” is expected to be freed as early as late Friday afternoon.

“This has been weeks of work from all sides involved in the prosecution of this complex case,” said Sandi Gibbons, Communications Director for the District Attorney’s Office.

Gibbons said that the DA’s office is “now satisfied” that all of those individuals who have contributed funds towards Noguez have been completed.
“We have had a number of meetings with bail bondsmen and attorney’s representing Assessor Noguez. This has been an intense process,” Gibbons said.
Members of Noguez legal team and prosecutors appeared before Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba on Friday to hammer out the details of the jailed Assessor’s release.

LCCN spoke to Morris DeMayo who is Noguez bail bondsman early Friday morning via phone. “It looks like John is going to be out today,” DeMayo said.

Noguez faces 13 counts of misappropriation by a public officer, five counts of perjury, four counts of accepting bribes and two counts of conspiracy for allegedly lowering property tax bills for campaign contributors. His next appearance in court will be on April 23 to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
