Hawaiian Elementary School placed on ‘lock down’ as law enforcement searches for domestic violence suspect

By Brian Hews

An elementary school in Hawaiian Gardens was placed on lock down Wednesday morning as members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Weapons Team searched for a possible armed suspect involved in a domestic violence incident.
The incident took place at the 12000 block of Brittain Street in Hawaiian Gardens when Lakewood Sheriff’s Station personnel searched for the suspect who was possibly armed.
After landing on the athletic field of Hawaiian Elementary School, 12350 East 226th Street, Sheriff’s Air Rescue-5, with paramedics on board, staged on the field. The school was placed on lock-down.
Students inside Hawaiian Elementary School were in the middle of taking a state mandated test, according to officials at the ABC Unified School District.
No students at Hawaiian Elementary School were ever in “harms way” school officials told Los Cerritos Community Newspaper.
“At approximately 10:00 this morning, after a search of the home, it was determined the suspect was not inside,” said Lakewood Sheriff’s Deputy Guillermina Saldaña.

If members of the community have any additional questions or information regarding the circumstances that led up to the search please contact Lakewood Station watch commander at (562) 623-3500.

Thanks for the reporting on this Randy.. we in the mobile home parks heard the choppers all morning and had NO idea what was happening and a little leery of leaving the house. Had to access your paper to find out.

  • Vicki Doolittle says:

Tragedies like this are becoming all too common and children are often caught in the cross-fire. Those of us working in the field are seeing a terrifying increase in this type of violence which is no surprise, given the pressures many families face. Domestic violence is a public health epidemic and everyone has a moral and financial obligation to eliminate it. Please support domestic violence shelters.
