The Fair Political Practices Commission slammed Tina Baca Del Rio this past week with a record $104,000 fine as a result of a 2013 Hews Media Group-Community News exclusive expose involving her campaign finance statement reporting.

The violations by Baca Del Rio  included failure to timely file and properly disclose financial activity on her campaign statements, and failure to disclose 22 late contributions of $1,000 or more in 14 separate cases.

It was a record fine for a local elected official.

Now, sources are telling Hews Media Group-Community News that the FPPC is negotiating with the multiple Political Reform Act offender  to lower Baca Del Rio’s fine a staggering $49,000, from a $104,000 to $55,000.

HMG-CN spoke to several Commerce residents who are extremely angry that the FPPC would consider such a deal as this is the third time Baca Del Rio has been caught abusing the political campaign system.

The last fine Baca Del Rio received multiple PRA violations she paid only $26,000, a substantial reduction from the initial fine.

“Given that she is a multiple offender, it would be extremely offensive to me if they gave her a 50% cut on her fine,” said one Commerce resident who did not want to be identified.

HMG-CN has sent emails to Baca Del Rio and the FPPC for comment, with no reply at time of cyber-publication.
