  • Updates says:

Cerritos town hall meeting regarding coyotes was held Wednesday 12/11 not very many people attended but the information was excellent along with photos. Meeting lasted 1.5 Hrs. Outcome of the meeting do not feed coyotes, coyotes only come around homes if they can smell food such as animals, dog food, trash can food, manure, fruits and vegetables. Surprised to learn that a lot of coyotes are eating out of city of Cerritos trash cans, since they don’t have lids on them. Coyotes do not come to mate.

CCC meeting on Thursday 12/11 was very well attended, 50 people spoke about the truck routes. Passed a truck route, noooooo trucks on B Bloomfield, cause of the vibration to homes and a environmental hazards from pollutants. CCC passed Street tree ordinance, and also talked about the proposed new Del Amo Bridge of 2003 or whatever. Meeting last till almost midnight.

    Neighborhood Watch News:
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882) was a noted American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who is credited for saying, “The man who knows how will always have a job. The man who knows why will always be his boss.” Indeed, understanding “why” is an essential precursor of any strategy. Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955), a Nobel Laureate, expressed the same concept by saying,“What I have is information … What I need is understanding.” You don’t have to be an “Einstein” to recognize the value of knowing “Why.” The Neighborhood Watch messages will always endeavor to not only inform you of “how” crime is occurring, but also “why” crime is occurring. Once you know “why” crime is occurring, you will possess the power to abate it … a condition that would have brought a smile to Emerson and Einstein.

    NW Items worthy of mention:
“Why” do property thieves frequent Cerritos? The answer is simple – freeway accessible and an abundance of quality products. Did you know that the LASD recorded that $5,820,929 worth of property was stolen out of Cerritos in 2018? The good news is that the amount of stolen goods in 2018 was actually down 37 percent from 2017 ($9,183,903 stolen). Collectively, we are making it more difficult for the knotheads. Good job, everyone!

“Why” do vehicle burglaries rise in December? Many opportunities created by volume. There are a lot of travelers, shoppers, and packages on the move in December. Did you know that there were over 100,000 shoppers at the Los Cerritos Center during the 24-hour period known as “Black Friday?” That holiday weekend brought 371,812 shoppers to the Los Cerritos Center. Those crowds and good deals also attract what? Don’t give the parking lot window shoppers (crooks) an opportunity. Keep your items of value out of sight (see photo of an uninformed citizen’s car).
