Two Men Shot Dead at Rick’s Motel in Downey, DPD Looking for Suspect Raymond Joseph Penland

On Saturday, June 30, 2018, at approximately 11:28 a.m., Officers responded to reports of shots fired at Rick’s Motel located at 9415 Firestone Blvd, City of Downey.

Upon arrival, Officers found two male subjects down in the parking lot of the location. Both subjects were pronounced deceased at the scene from gunshot wounds. It appears that the suspect was involved in a dispute with both victims prior to the shooting and it does not appear to be a random act.

Through investigative means, Raymond Joseph Penland was identified as the suspect in the homicides. Penland fled the location after committing the crimes and was last seen in the City of Santa Fe Springs.

Two additional subjects are being sought as persons of interest; Catarina Frances Barajas, 25 years of age, and Vanessa Teresa Cardenas, 32 years of age.
