Ali Syed identified as Orange County shooting spree suspect

Breaking News

By Brian Hews

Law enforcement officials in Orange County have confirmed that Ali Syed was the killer who caused chaos by gunning down three people before apparently taking his own life with a shotgun on Tuesday.

It is being reported that the 20-year-old Syed was living at his parents home and occasionally attended a local community college.  Motive for the incident has not been established by law enforcement officials handling the investigation.

Syed is believed to have killed three people including Melvin Lee Edwards, a 69-year-old businessman who was apparently on his way to work when Syed ordered him out of his car and literally executing him after he walked him to a nearby curb.

Syed then apparently confronted Jeremy Lewis, 26, a worker at a construction site, and shot him as he sat in his truck.

One woman, who has yet to be identified was found dead in her home at 5 Red Leaf Lane in Ladera Ranch before dawn.  Police believe that she was Syed’s first victim.

Sayed is believed to have carjacked a vehicle starting about 5:30 a.m. around the 5 and 55 freeways, according to the Tustin Police Department.

Los Cerritos Community Newspaper will have updates as they develop.
