WHITTIER, Calif. — To provide assistance to individuals and families in need, the Whittier Area Community Resource Fair will be held on Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Richard L. Graves Middle School in Whittier.
The event, featuring more than 30 participants, is designed to deliver much-needed resources in a number of areas, including education, social services, nutrition, mental health, public safety and employment. Employers will be in attendance to interview candidates for hire.
The fair is sponsored by Goodwill, Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, the South Whittier School District and THINK Together, California’s fastest-growing, nonprofit provider of extended learning time programs.
“We are very happy to be able to host this event for the families in the South Whittier community and our surrounding neighbors,” said South Whittier School District Assistant Superintendent Gail Baxter. “Families in the unincorporated area of Whittier often do not have access to the same resources and benefits that are available to those living within city limits. Bringing the resources into our own backyard will provide the opportunity for many of our families to benefit from the quality resources available to them.”
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the free event, which will feature refreshments and performances from local schools. County Supervisor Don Knabbe is scheduled to be at the fair.
“We’re delighted to be part of this exciting inaugural event,” said. “THINK Together is more than just a provider of academically oriented out of school education. We also spend a lot of time on health and wellness issues. By helping those in need, we are strengthening the fabric of our entire community.”
Additional sponsorships are still available.
“The fair is an opportunity for agencies and companies to reach a community of potential new clients that is currently underserved,” Gail Baxter said.
The resource fair will take place at Richard L. Graves Middle School located at 13243 East Los Nietos Road, Whittier 90605.
