CORPORAL ALEX MARTINEZ KILLED IN ACTION IN AFGHANISTAN

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that the battalion has lost one of its own during combat operations in Helmand Province on the 5th of April.  Corporal Alex Martinez was killed in action while providing close combat engineer support to the Marines of 2d Battalion 5th Marine Regiment in northern Helmand

Corporal Martinez was on his second deployment to Afghanistan, fighting the war on terror during Operation Enduring Freedom.  He will be remembered as an accomplished, quiet professional who was always positive and admired by his friends and fellow Marines.  I ask that all keep Alex and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this very trying time.  Alex is survived by his wife, Julianna Martinez, and his mother and father who both reside in Illinois.
