Man Found Dead in Montebello Identified

(CNS) A man found beaten to death in Montebello was identified today, and a suspect in his killing remained in custody.

Fabian Ramirez, 54, a possible transient, was found dead about 12:15 p. m. Nov. 23 in a parking lot at 308 S. Vail Ave., according to the Montebello Police Department and the coroner’s office.

Martin Bautista, 33, of Pico Rivera was arrested on Nov. 25 and was booked on suspicion of murder, according to police and the sheriff’s department. Bautista was being held on $1 million bail and was scheduled to appear on court on Dec. 16 in downtown Los Angeles, according to the sheriff’s department.

Witnesses told police they saw two men running from the area where Ramirez was found dead following some sort of fight. Ramirez died of “blunt head trauma,” coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. Police asked anyone with information about the case to call Montebello police Detective C. Adams at (323) 887-1313, ext. 256, or Detective R. Zabala at ext. 254.
