Norwalk resident Frank Hayes, 75, is the second person to die of West Nile Virus in Los Angeles County this year.
Alyxandra Ponce, 25, said she and other family members first noticed her grandfather, Hayes, was ill Aug. 21.
On the 23rd, he was taken to PIH Health Hospital Downey where he passed away 17 days later.
“This is really sad, he was a great guy,” Ponce said. “We want people to know West Nile is real.”
Oddly enough, Hayes had no underlying illness or conditions and got regular medical checkups, Ponce said.
