Update: Former Bellflower Mayor, Court Commissioner Edward Drayer Dies After Suffering Heart Attack

Edward Drayer, a former Court Commissioner and Bellflower City Councilmember and Mayor died unexpectedly last Friday from a massive heart attack.

Drayer was 69 years old at the time of his passing.

The well known and well like community leader, Drayer was at a local business in Cypress business when he fell ill. He died at Los Alamitos Hospital.

Drayer’s son, Cerritos College Trustee John Paul Drayer told Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper that heart disease has been pronounced in his family’s medical history.

“When he was 7 years old my grandparents moved the family to Bellflower to start several businesses. He married my mom Julie in 1961, and I was born in 1962,” John Paul Drayer told Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper on Sunday night.

Later, the couple had two girls, Melissa & Amy.

Drayer was elected to the Bellflower City Council in 1978 and was then elected Mayor by his fellow city council members in 1980. Drayer is also a former professor at Cerritos College.

Drayer went on to serve as a Municipal Court Commissioner with the Bellflower Courthouse where he served for 16 years.

Judge Drayer is survived by his wife Cuqui Maria Drayer, Melissa
Drayer Petersen, Amy Drayer, Rhonda Vowell, Raul Gamez, myself, and 11
Grand children.

Specific funeral plans have not been finalized by John Paul Drayer said his father’s life will be celebrated at Rose Hills Memorial Park. HMG-CN will have specific details about the services as soon as they are finalized.
