La Mirada High School baseball coach Kim Brooks has been suspended by school district officials after a 17-minute profanity-laced tirade secretly taped by a member of his team was released to members of the media that literally has gone viral around the globe during the past 72 hours.
Brooks, who coaches baseball the highly successful local high school team for three decades has now become an internet hit with millions of people hitting dozens of versions of the rant.
On the recording, Brooks verbally bashes his team and questions their commitment to athletics and to the team.
Brooks tells players to transfer other schools if “they can’t take it.”
A Matador player made the recording allegedly, after they lost an 8-4 non-league game to Los Osos High School back on April 26.
Dr. Ruth Perez, Superintendent of the NLMUSD issued the following statement about Brooks:
‘The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District has received a copy of a recording of high school teacher and Athletic Director Thomas Brooks,’ it said.
‘The District appreciates the serious nature of the content of the recording, and as such is conducting a full investigation into the matter. Pending completion of the investigation, Mr. Brooks will remain on paid administrative leave in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation process.”
