A Long Beach man charged with the assault of a woman he met at a bar was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday afternoon.
Steven Michael Desisto, 52, was expected to appear in Department 1 in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Long Beach. Desisto is charged with two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object where the victim is drugged, one count of eavesdropping and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
Prosecutors said that on August 7, 2013, Desisto had drinks with the woman, then allegedly took her to his apartment and assaulted her several times. During the police investigation, officials discovered an image of the victim on Desisto’s cellphone. Additionally, cocaine was found at the defendant’s home.
Desisto remains in custody and his bail is recommended at $2 million. If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum of 11 years and eight months in state prison.
The case remains under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department.
