Members of the Los Angele County Sheriff’s Department will be holding an “active shooter drill” next Tuesday, November 5th at the world famous Los Cerritos Center.

On Friday, Los Angeles International Airport was the scene of a deadly shooting that left at least on man dead and several others injured.

In a statement to members of the media on Friday after noon, Captain Keith Swensson said that Los Cerritos Center “is one of the safest retail establishments in Southern California. To continue safe practices, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Cerritos Sheriff’s Station is conducting emergency preparedness training will mall personnel.”

The exercise is slated to take place from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

The event will involve personnel from Cerritos, Lakewood, Norwalk and Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Stations. In addition, the Cerritos Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), mall security and store personnel will participate.

Swensson said the training will “simulate a tactical emergency at a mall where deputies and fire personnel will respond and take immediate action to preserve life and property.”

Hews Media Group-Community Newspaper will be at the drill and will provide additional coverage to our readers both on line and in next weeks print editions.
