John Glenn High School Cheer, Stunt Teams to Perform in London New Year’s Day Parade

NLMUSD Cheer Stunt Teams(Norwalk) Four members of the John Glenn High School Cheer and Stunt Team are among more than 500 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. to be invited to perform in the world-famous London New Year’s Day Parade.

Sophomore Kadence Golightly, junior Krysta Diaz and seniors Leslie Barron and Gabriela Salazar won coveted spots on the Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American Cheer team after being selected for their superior skills at this year’s summer cheer camp at UC San Diego.

“The London New Year’s Day Parade is one of the most incredible events of its kind in the world, and for our students to be asked to attend is truly an honor and a privilege for them and us as a school district,” said Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Ruth Pérez. “This really is a testament to their hard work in their studies and cheerleading activities. I’m sure it will put them on a path to competitive leadership.”

The London Parade includes more than 10,000 performers before a street-side audience of more than 1 million, and more than 20 million viewers from around the world via television.

The exclusive positions in the parade include an all-inclusive trip to London from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2. The cost is $3,240 per attendee. To help the team raise the funds necessary, the girls, with support from NLMUSD administrators and cheer coaches, will hold fundraisers, including one on September 27, with an “Outdoor Movie Night.”  The Cheer and Pep Squad will host an outdoor screening of ’80s classic, “The Goonies,” at the John Glenn High School quad at sundown. Entrance fee is $2, which includes an opportunity drawing ticket to win prizes. There will also be carnival-style games, a treasure hunt and concessions through the evening.

Those who wish to donate are also encouraged to send a check payable to John Glenn High School with “Pep Units” written in the memo line. John Glenn High is located at 13520 Shoemaker Ave. in Norwalk.
