Pico Rivera Sheriff’s deputy and a sergeant were involved in a shooting on Friday morning in Unincorporated West Whittier that resulted in the death of a known gang member, law enforcement officials have confirmed.

Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told members of the media that a Pico Rivera Sheriff’s deputy and a sergeant were patrolling in the 6800 block of Duchess Drive in the county area of Whittier when they stopped to talk with two known gang members who belonged to a local street gang.

“As they exited their car, one of the individuals ran towards the backyard of a house. The sergeant followed the suspect into the backyard where he saw the suspect pointing a handgun in his direction and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect sustained two gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” said Saldana.

The suspect’s loaded handgun was recovered at the scene, and the sergeant did not sustain any injuries.  The second individual was questioned and released.

The police officer had no right trying to force someone to stop and talk given no crime was committed.
Police in this area has done this to others, asking the business of people I know who are innocently talking to each other on their front lawn. Just because someone does not look like the all-American cookie cutter, does not mean you need to harass them.

I bet the man ran to the back of the house and the police man ran after him and shot him. If anything, the gangster just had a gun in his pocket. I say this only because the officer in this area who harassed the people I know was more aggressive than he needed to be.

Police corruption needs to be put to an end.

Yes you are correct Jessica. This police brutality and abuse of power must stop! Robert was my friend since high school, he was a good person, and never wanted hurt anyone, he had a big heart and would do anything for his family/friends. The sheriff shot him in the back, and such a cowardly act is considered a wrongful death. He was no threat to the sheriff and was obviously running to avoid confrontation. Justice will be served on behalf of Robert’s family and ffriends.

Unfortunately for me this is the second friend of mine that has been wrongfully gun downed by law enforcment. The other was killed by an off duty US Marshall who was drunk and beating on his wife. The wife ran to my friend and co-worker for help. My friend defended her and the coward pulled his gun out and empty his clip chasing my unarmed friend. Again another case of a power tripping, trigger happy, irresponsible coward.
