Powerhouse Fire Explodes in Angeles National Forest on Thursday Night

Firefighters in Southern California have been dispatched to the Angeles National Forest just west of Lancaster to fight what is now being called the Powerhouse Fire.

As of 10 p.m. on Thursday night more than 1,000 acres have burned.

At least one structure, possibly related to a large Department of Water and Power pipeline, has burned.

Multiple Type 1 strike teams have been ordered to protect structures in front of the fire.  At times high voltage power lines were arcing down to the ground through heavy, black smoke.

The Community of Green Valley is under mandatory evacuation and San Fransciquito Canyon Road is under a hard closure.

Bouquet Canyon Road is under a soft closure open to residence only. Elisabeth Lake Road is under a soft closure open to residence only.

Red Cross evacuation assistance is located at Marie Kerr Park, 39700 30th St. W. Palmdale, 93551 for residence. Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster for large animals.

A Type 2 Fire Incident Management Team has been ordered to manage the fire. The Fire will be turned over to team est. 6:00 a.m.
