An 81-year old female was struck and killed early Saturday morning in Artesia prompting local law enforcement officials to find the car and driver responsible for the horrific incident.

Lakewood Sheriff’s Station Traffic Detail confirmed that they are investigating a fatal, hit and run, traffic collision that occurred on Saturday at Norwalk Boulevard and Droxford Street at approximately 4:40 a.m.

The location is near New Life Community Church, which is one of the most popular and well attended religious institutions in the greater Cerritos-Artestia area.

“The victim was walking eastbound in the crosswalk when a red vehicle struck her. The driver failed to remain at the scene of the collision and fled south bound on Norwalk Boulevard and out of view,” said  Sergeant Rich Peña and Sergeant Diane Hecht from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

They said that the vehicle is described as red in color with substantial damage to the front end and windshield. Los Cerritos Community Newspaper will be gathering more information about the victim, her identity, and additional details.

Anyone with any additional information or who may have witnessed the traffic collision is encouraged to contact Investigator Chris Bronowicki of the Lakewood Station Traffic Detail at (562) 623-3500.
