A spokeswoman for the Long Beach Police Department confirmed to Los Cerritos Community Newspaper that the cause of the closure was due to big rig accident.

An accident in Long Beach on Friday morning has resulted in heavy traffic congestion due to accident in the area of 7th Street and the Northbound I-605. The Long Beach Police Department issued a statement reporting that eastbound 7th Street is blocked and traffic diverted at Studebaker and that it could be closed for at least 24 hours. No additional information about the details of the accident have been released as of 12:15 p.m.
