NORWALK – Caltrans has upgraded a previously planned closure schedule for tonight on the
northbound Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) to include a FULL FREEWAY CLOSURE from Valley View Avenue
to just south of Rosecrans Avenue to repair and replace six pavement slabs.
Tonight, Overnight, Wednesday, February 20: 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Full Freeway Closure: Northbound I-5 from Valley View Avenue to Rosecrans Avenue.
Motorists travelling northbound I-5 from Orange County must exit at Valley View Avenue offramp. To re-enter northbound I-5, motorists will continue north on Valley View Ave; to Rosecrans
Ave and re-enter at the Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp.
• Closed Freeway Connector: the westbound Artesia Freeway (State Route 91) connector to
northbound I- 5 will be closed. Traffic will be detoured to continue westbound SR-91 to
northbound I-605 to northbound I-5.
• Closed on-ramps: at Valley View Avenue, Alondra Blvd, and Carmenita Road.
Other planned overnight work in this area as part of the I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects
from the Los Angeles/Orange County line to I-605:
Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 20 and 21
During tonight’s full freeway closure for slab replacement, other Caltrans crews will continue previously
scheduled work to re-stripe lanes and place K-rail (concrete barriers).
Northbound I-5
7 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Full Closure of Ramps: At various times throughout the night, motorists can expect Full
Closure of these on-ramps and off-ramps: Carmenita Rd, Rosecrans Ave, Firestone Blvd, Norwalk Blvd
and Pioneer Blvd.
Southbound I-5
7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Full Closure of the on-ramps at Firestone Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.
11 p.m. to 5 a.m. – up to two freeway lanes closed from Pioneer Boulevard to Carmenita Road.
Overnight, Thursday Feb. 21
Southbound I-5: 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m. – two lanes closed from Florence Avenue to Firestone Blvd.
Overnight, Friday, Feb. 22
Northbound I-5: 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m.–two lanes closed from just north of Valley View to Rosecrans.
Southbound I-5: 11:59 p.m. to 4 a.m. – up to two lanes closed from Florence Ave to Carmenita Rd.
Reminder: The Shoemaker Avenue Bridge, between Rosecrans Avenue and Excelsior Drive, is now
fully closed for approximately one year during bridge demolition and reconstruction. Also, North Firestone
Blvd. frontage road, between Carmenita Road and Rosecrans Avenue, is fully closed.
