An Open Letter from to the Community:
It is with great honor and enthusiasm to serve as the new Superintendent of ABC Unified School District effective July 1.. This role marks my 23rd year career in the District. Prior to this position, I served as the District’s Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services and Director of Special Programs and Services. Although I am not a newcomer to the District, I plan on carefully and strategically reviewing where the District is now and where the staff and community would like to see it go in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my predecessor Dr. Gary Smuts for his leadership in moving the District forward during the past seven years. I’m confident that the District will continue to thrive as a result of building upon the work that has been done.
Our mission “Student achievement—our main thing” will remain our priority. The core values that have been adopted by our Board are simple and powerful.
We believe students in ABC should be as well educated as any in the world. We believe all students have the capacity to be high achievers. We believe people are the cornerstone of our District and students are the reason we are here.
I value continuous improvement and welcome input from our key stakeholders in the District and communities as we move forward.
I wish to express my appreciation to all the individuals, staff, students, parents and community members who do their part on a daily basis to ensure that our students in ABC learn in a safe and nurturing environment. Thank you for your support as I begin my new role as Superintendent. I look forward to meeting you in the community in the near future and to a new school year.
Dr. Mary Sieu
ABC Unified School District
