A 19-year-old Norwalk resident is under arrest Monday afternoon after he took a possible stolen car and led law enforcement on a chase that began in Hawaiian Gardens and ended at the 13600 block of Benfield Avenue in Norwalk.
Under arrest is Victor Vasquez, 19 and he is facing two felony counts of taking possession of an unauthorized vehicle as well as evading and eluding law enforcement.
Vasquez is being held on a $50,000 bail, according to Lakewood Sheriff’s Watch Commander Lt. Eric Lindblom.
Lindblom told Los Cerritos Community Newspaper Group that Vasquez jumped from the car he was driving at the end of the chase and attempted to enter one residence on Benfield, but actually “ended up next door in another house.” Vasquez was taken into custody “shortly after he entered the second residence without incident.”
“He just came out of the house and surrendered,” Lindblom said.
