BELL GARDENS — Multiple sources have told Los Cerritos Community News that Central Basin Municipal Water District Director Juan Garza has applied to become the next city manager of Bell Gardens and has advanced to become one of the finalists for the position.
LCCN has contacted Garza three separate times asking him to confirm or deny that he applied for the position and that he is among the finalists. Garza has not responded to those questions.
Bell Gardens is currently recruiting for a new city manager, the city’s top administrative position. Under Bell Gardens’ council-manager form of government, the City Council appoints the city manager, who is responsible for carrying out the council’s policies and overseeing city operations.
Garza currently represents Division 4 on the Central Basin Municipal Water District Board and also serves as executive director of the California Cities for Self-Reliance Joint Powers Authority.
LCCN has not independently confirmed that Garza has been selected for the position or that the Bell Gardens City Council has made a final decision.
LCCN will continue to follow the city manager selection process.
