Tate Trapp graduated from Recruit Training in August, 2013, followed by Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton and then Combat Engineer Course at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, graduating in January 2014. Upon graduation he received orders to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion (1st CEB).

Sergeant Trapp was assigned to Charlie Company and served in deployments to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Sergeant Trapp was responsible for the force protection of US forces and allies in a hostile combat zone. Tirelessly, he rotated throughout three different military installations across Iraq where his efforts aided in bolstering the safety of over 1000 fellow service-members.

Sergeant Trapp is now serving as an instructor for junior Marines in the 1st CEB, using his expertise as a combat engineer to promote mission readiness and overall proficiency. Additionally, he was hand-picked to lead 1st CEB’s small unit leaders in leadership development training. In his three months as an instructor, he has left a positive mark on over 120 Marines.

Sergeant Trapp also served as a seminar leader for a Professional Military Education course. The Battalion conducts these types of course quarterly and hand selects the instructors. The Lance Corporals Leadership and Ethics Seminar is a five day course where Marines are developed and taught about increased leadership. His performance was so impressive that he was hand-selected to be an instructor for the Corporals Course, which is three weeks long. During this course he was in charge of training the future small unit leaders of the Battalion.
Sergeant Trapp has excelled in every aspect of his annual training. He has achieved “Iron-Man” Physical Fitness and Combat Fitness Test Scores. He has achieved “Rifle Expert” on marksmanship.

Sergeant Trapp has distinguished himself with his ability to handle complex tasks with compressed timelines while needing little to no supervision. Sgt Trapp is a true professional who puts forth his best effort in everything he does which makes him an exemplary representative of the 1st CEB and his performance represents the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.
