CERRITOS, Calif. (KABC) —

Three people were killed after a violent crash on the 91 Freeway in Cerritos early Saturday, and two of the victims are children.

The victims were later identified as Lavell Mann, a personal trainer, 33, Logan Mann, a 3-year-old girl and Legend Mann, a 9-month-old boy, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The California Highway Patrol said three vehicles were involved in the crash just after 1 a.m. on the westbound 91 at Pioneer Boulevard.

A red jeep rear-ended a gas tanker, then slammed into the center median and landed upside down in the carpool lane. Then, a black BMW hit the jeep, according to investigators.

A 6-year-old child and a 34-year-old man in the BMW suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Around 2 a.m., four lanes were shut down. All lanes were reopened just before 6 a.m., according to the CHP.

Memorial for Long Beach trainer and 2 young kids killed in Artesia collision raises $30K

Mourners have pledged to donate more than $30,000 to help pay for the funerals of a Long Beach fitness trainer and his two children who died early Saturday morning in a collision on the 91 Freeway.

“(It’s) heartbreaking,” said Alisha Lopez, who owns the Signal Hill gym where the late trainer worked as an independent contractor.

“It feels empty today. We’ve been consoling each other,” Lopez said.

The early Saturday morning collision happened shortly after 1 a.m. and claimed the lives of 33-year-old trainer Lavell Mann as well as his 3-year-old daughter, Logan, and 9-month-old son, Legend. Two crash also involved two other vehicles — a gas tanker and a 2012 BMW — and a 34-year-old woman and 6-year-old child riding in the BMW required hospital care.

Lopez, who owns No Limits Sports and Fitness Academy in Signal Hill, said Mann has worked alongside her team as an independent contractor for more than six years.

“His clients are taking it very hard,” Lopez said.

The grief extends beyond Mann’s immediate circle of clients, as Lopez said fitness trainers and each others’ clients exist within a tight-knit community.

No Limits Sports and Fitness Academy has announced plans to hold a candlelight memorial event for Mann and his children. The event is planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the gym, which is at 3221 Industry Drive in Signal Hill.

People grieving for the loss of Mann and his children have also expressed their feelings on the webpage for a GoFundMe.com campaign that, as of Monday evening, shows more than $30,000 in pledges intended to help Mann’s family pay for funeral costs.

GoFundMe.com is a popular crowdfunding platform that allows its users to raise relatively large amounts of money for various needs, such as unexpected funeral costs, by collecting small contributions from large numbers of people.

“All the love that he’s been getting is amazing,” said Nicole Carmier, a friend of Mann’s widow since the women attended college together. “It’s real love, too. A lot of people knew him.”
