NORTHBOUND I-710 FULL CLOSURE THIS WEEKEND

55-Hour Closure of Connectors to I-10

EAST LOS ANGELES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) today announced that the northbound Interstate 710 (Long Beach Freeway) will be closed for long periods over the July 8 to 20 weekend between Cesar Chavez Avenue and Interstate 10 as crews place pre-cast pavement slabs. The northbound Interstate 5 and westbound and eastbound Interstate 60 connectors to northbound I-710 will also be closed.

Additionally, the northbound I-710 connectors to both east and westbound Interstate 10 will be closed for 55 hours.

 Specific closure times for northbound I-710 are:

 Friday, July 8, 10 p.m. – Saturday, July 9, noon.

(Saturday, July 9, noon to 8 p.m.: one lane open)

Saturday, July 9, 8 p.m. – Monday, July 11, 5 a.m.

 I-710 connectors to east and westbound I-10 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

Traffic will be detoured from I-710 along Cesar Chavez and Eastern avenues. Traffic on SR-60 will be detoured to I-10. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes around the project area if possible and to follow signs if they use the detours. Work is weather permitting.

As part of a $120 million pavement replacement project on I-710 from I-105 to I-10, this project is installing precast concrete panels as well as repairing concrete slabs in various traffic lanes and locations, upgrading the median barrier, and constructing maintenance pullouts along the route to enhance safety for maintenance crews.

Shimmick/Myers and Sons Joint Venture Construction on the project, which began in August 2012 and is expected to be completed in 2016.
