UPDATE: An on duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Transit Services Deputy has been hit by a car while rendering aid to a motorist on Saturday morning at 3rd Street and Downey Road in East Los Angeles.
The officer, identified as Rudy Juarez has been transported to a local hospital.
Sheriff Lee Baca spoke to the news media at the hospital and shared that Deputy Juarez “is in critical condition.”
“He has a head injury, broken bones, and is unconscious but breathing on his own. The next 24 hours are vital,” Baca said.
