Thank you for running for a council candidate. Here is a couple of helpful suggestions……don’t get upset for what I’m saying, but many candidates across the USA have the same philosophy, what I’m going to give you for free.

Photos speak a million words. Cerritos advertises diversity, but don’t see bone deep diversity in your group photo. Most of the people are Asians. What happened to all the seniors who are white haired, blonde residents, red-haired residents, medically impaired/disabled seniors, African American residents, have they been whitewashed away from your campaign? There’s nothing wrong with being handicap and in a wheelchair, or being pregnant, they should be sitting in the front for all future pictures/ mailers. We need babies and I don’t see this. I’m handicapped, wasn’t this way a majority of my life, but it is what it is and I have to be proud of it, and I’m not going to hide my wheelchair, or my crutches out of sight, they are part of my lifestyle and would appreciate that future pictures. From 50’s-60’s we still have residents who have side effects from Polio.

Don’t see anybody w/ alternative marriages, transgender or gay and lesbian. There are many living in the city, 2 former gay policemen ran for CCC, but I don’t see them in your photos, is there a reason for this, are you ashamed ?. If they can serve in the military, they should be worthy of a group photo to advertise Cerritos Diversity.

I always tell everybody running for office, their home and family becomes Cerritos Mafia, advertise your family and your home and garden. Sure hope your home and garden is in order & award winning, after serving on the CPC? My opine, Cerritos housing stock in the worst appearing in the past 50 yrs. Why cant Cerritos be: Rossmoor-Montecito-Palos Verdes or BeverlyHills???

Running for any office today, candidates must think outside the box, to succeed.

    Downey’s New Donut store.

Glad to see that that former vacant car dealership is finally going to be home to a new Landmark donut store. Very well remember the one in Inglewood on Manchester, that was way before the 405 freeway was built. Seems like only yesterday, construction of the 405 was in process over by LAX and sharply recall looking down in to the dirt construction of the 405 with the Donut Marquee in the background.

We stopped there many times, to get donuts before going to LAX in the 50’s-60’s. Glad Downey chose this iconic donut store, it’ll will look good with the historical McDonald’s on Florence/ Lakewood Avenue. Sad that Downey did not find a Memorial Park for the first and only Taco Bell/Firestone Blvd, nor the Anthony swimming pool display showroom across the street from Taco Bell. Don’t think southern California has more swimming pools built by anyone compared to Anthony swimming pool.

Sad sad sad, Downey lost its Silver Saddle restaurant up on Florence, that was a historical restaurant with a lot of equestrian memorabilia, along with the Memory House Restaurant, there was not a restaurant in Los Angeles or Orange County, which had such a awesome collection of cuckoo clocks on the wall. There’s a lot of Rich good memories from Downey.

Another famous eatery was the Carousel Restaurant in Inglewood, drive in restaurant, but was closed because it was serving awesome horse burgers.

    Downey’s New Donut store.

Glad to see that that Downey former vacant, used car dealership is finally going to be home to a new Landmark donut store. Very well remember the one in Inglewood on Manchester, that was way before the 405 freeway was built. Seems like only yesterday, construction of the 405 was in process over by LAX and sharply recall looking down in to the dirt construction of the 405 with the Donut Marquee in the background.

Old tradition: since its football season – people have been known to toss a foot ball from across the Manchester street thru the hole in to the donut hole at Randy’s!! Inglewood location, use to put Santa and his sleigh going thru the hole in the donut.

There was a spin off of the Donut in the sky, nearby Vets hospital, Long Beach.

We stopped at the Inglewood location many times, to get donuts before going to LAX in the 50’s-60’s. Glad Downey chose this iconic donut store, it’ll will look good with the historical McDonald’s on Florence/ Lakewood Avenue. Sad that Downey did not find a Memorial Park for the first Taco Bell/Firestone Blvd, near the Anthony swimming pool display showroom across the street from Taco Bell. Don’t think southern California has more swimming pools built by anyone compared to Anthony swimming pool.

Sad sad sad, Downey lost its Silver Saddle restaurant up on Florence, North Downey, that was a historical restaurant with a lot of equestrian memorabilia, along with the Memory House Restaurant, Stewart n Gray/Downey Ave, there was not a restaurant in Los Angeles or Orange County, which had such a awesome collection of German cuckoo clocks on the wall.

Another famous eatery was the Clock -Carousel Restaurant in Inglewood, drive in restaurant, but was closed because it was serving awesome horse burgers. It was a large drive-in style, car hop and had carousel animals for the kids to ride and be entertained. Said pad drew large crowds back in the 60’s, bumper to bumper traffic. It was in competition with Harvey Broiler- Jonnies Broiler in Downey. Car Hops were #1 and enjoyed by many, since many residents were purchasing cars following the WW1-WW2

There’s a lot of Rich good memories from Downey.
