Woman Shot in Cerritos Near Shoemaker and 91 Freeway

CERRITOS — A woman suffered a non-life threatening wound in a shooting Wednesday in Cerritos.

Deputies responded to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call about 1:30 a.m. near Shoemaker Avenue and the 91 Freeway and located the victim with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder, according to Sgt. William Madison of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Cerritos Station.

The woman was in a vehicle when she was shot, according to reports from the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, Madison said.

No suspect description was immediately available, he said.

It’s unclear if the shooting happened on the freeway or a city street.

On Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 1:28 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Cerritos Station deputies responded to the 91 Freeway and Shoemaker Road in the city of Cerritos, at the request of California Highway Patrol, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies searched the area and located the victim, an adult female, who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her upper torso.

Detectives have learned the victim was alone driving her vehicle southbound on Shoemaker Avenue near Park Plaza when she heard several popping sounds.  At this time she felt pain to her upper torso, and used her cell phone to call authorities.

The victim was treated on scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department and transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

It is unknown if the incident is gang-related and no weapon was recovered.  The investigation is ongoing and there are no further details at this time.
