Authorities on Friday, Oct. 13 found a body at Peter’s Canyon in the Canyon Fire 2 burn area, and are investigating the case as one involving a possibly suicidal person who went missing from Costa Mesa last month, Orange police said.
Orange police said that on Sept. 29 a man in Costa Mesa reported his roommate missing. Two days later, the person’s car was found in the parking lot of Peter’s Canyon. Inside were a suicide note and shotgun shells, said Sgt. Phil McMullin.
At that time, officers and park rangers searched the area, bringing in a helicopter to help search, but couldn’t find anyone. On Friday, fire personnel in the burned area found the burned remains. Nearby was a shotgun, McMullin said.
“We’re investigating it as possibly being the missing person,” he said, adding that the coroner’s office would determine identity and cause of death.
