Cerritos Urges Residents to Contact City for Water Valve Shut Off

Residents are advised to contact the City’s Water Division before turning off their water supply valves. There have been recent instances where residents or their contractors have turned off the water supply at the water meter (located near the street) to conduct repairs. In some cases, the valves were broken when turned in the wrong direction, leaving residents without water.

The water meter, the valve and the utility box are City property. Only City staff is permitted to turn the water on and off at the valve. If the valve or meter is broken, the homeowner may be responsible for the repair or replacement costs.

The City provides free 24-hour turn on/off services. Request this service by calling (562) 916-1223 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Emergency service is also provided after 5 p.m., on weekends and holidays by calling (562) 860-0311.
