Lakewood Regional Medical Center Receives Gold Award for Stroke Care

Staff Report

Lakewood, CA, (October 28, 2015) – Under the direction of neurologist Nirav Patel, M.D., and the clinical team of Lakewood Regional Medical Center, the hospital has been awarded the Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association in the national Get With the Guidelines® achievement program. In addition, they have been placed on the Target: Stroke Elite Plus honor roll.

According to the American Heart Association, most hospitals that implement Get With The Guidelines® realize measurable results, including improved patient outcomes and fewer recurring events. It’s a difference that shows in the lives of patients and their families and in the satisfaction felt by caregivers empowered to do their best.

“We are proud to receive this Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award as a testimony to our dedication to offering fast and effective care for stroke patients,” said Lakewood Regional Medical Center’s Chief Nursing Officer Terri Newton. “Stroke can be devastating and debilitating. We want to do everything we can to improve each patient’s outcomes.”

Get With The Guidelines® Gold Plus Achievement Award was given to Lakewood Regional Medical Center for having reached an aggressive goal of treating stroke patients with 85 percent or higher compliance to core standard levels of care for 12 consecutive months.

Studies show that consistent application of these stroke treatment programs can lead to better recoveries and lower risks of ending up back in the hospital. The caring staff at Lakewood Regional Medical Center is committed to providing consistent quality care to achieve these improved patient outcomes, and these awards acknowledge their efforts.

The Target: Stroke Elite Plus honor roll distinction is the result of achieving the ideal time to intravenous thrombolytic therapy. Lakewood Regional Medical Center’s Stroke Team has earned this distinction by consistently providing timely care.

  • Less than 60 minutes in 75 percent or more of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients.

Lakewood Regional is proud to have received this distinction by improving quality of patient care and outcomes.

Stroke strikes 785,000 people per year. Lakewood Regional Medical Center is working with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association to strike back.
